HUNTING SAFARIS NAMIBIA |
 |
Ozondjahe
(O-ZUN-YA-HAY) the premier Namibia hunting
outfitter is proud to offer the highest quality of plains
game hunting, Leopard hunting
and Cheetah hunting in Namibia. We
have been African trophy hunting in Namibia
for decades and boast over 20 plains game
hunting species such as Kudu hunting,
Oryx hunting and Blue
Wildebeest hunting to name a few. At Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris, we take considerable pride in the manner in which
we conduct our traditional African hunting
safaris, as well as African bowhunting
safaris. Join us to trophy hunt Africa
on one of the largest privately owned game reserves in Namibia,
covering 75,000 acres (30.000 hectares) or 120 square miles (300
square kilometers) in one solid landmass. Experience an Africa
hunting safari adventure of a lifetime.
This private safari hunting reserve
has been owned by a European family for three generations and is
well known throughout Namibia for its plenitude of incredible plains
game hunting trophy, as well as playing an important role
in wildlife conservation. Our Namibia hunting
territory is located in a malaria-free zone in the central region
of Namibia, click here for Namibia map.
Our Africa hunting safaris territory
neighbors the Waterberg Plateau National Park, renowned for its
multitude of rare and endangered African big
game and majestic beauty. Profiting from Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris abundance, a magnificent array of African plains
game may be seen grazing on the open plains or congregating near
one of the numerous water holes. Found amongst this profusion of
African wildlife are over 20 species for plains
game hunting as well as Leopard hunting
and Cheetah hunting in this natural
unspoiled environment. Click here to read about Leopard
hunt or click here to read about Cheetah
hunt. The African safaris hunting
territory consists of a variety of differing terrains
including bush land with open savannahs and contains an entire mountain
range, Ozondjahe Peak, after which the Namibia
hunting reserve is named. The vast area of Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris is 75,000 acres (30.000 hectares) or 120 square miles
(300 square kilometers) in one solid landmass, ten times larger
than the average property in Namibia. This makes it possible for
our clients to fully commit their time to their safari
hunting endeavors rather than spending hours driving long
distances between small hunting establishments, as is commonly done
amongst hunting outfitters in Namibia.
By limiting the quantity of fair chase hunting
safaris that we conduct, we consistently provide our clients
with the exceptional African hunting trophies
that they expect. As a result of our conscientious hunting practices,
Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris possesses
the greatest variety, game population and quality of African
hunting trophy in the region. Click here to view our African
hunting trophy photo gallery.
We encourage you to contact a few of our clients as safari

At Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris it has

YOUR NAMIBIA HUNTING SAFARI |
Our
clients consistently leave with top quality trophies, in the 2003
trophy hunting season 4 of the top
10 trophies in Namibia were taken at
Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris according
to Namibia Professional
Hunter Association (NAPHA).
In the last decade more than 85% of our hunting
trophies reach NAPHA Gold Medal
standards or higher, which is why so many of our clients have returned
to hunt Namibia with us again and have
sent their friends.
Every Namibia hunting safari is tailored
to meet your specific desires with your unsurpassed satisfaction
being our foremost priority. You may choose to hunt one on one (1x1)
with your own Professional Hunter, or alongside a friend (2x1),
two hunters with one Professional Hunter. Very few hunting
outfitters in Namibia employ two full time Professional Hunters
as we do, we can accommodate two hunters per Professional Hunter,
four hunters total. For larger safari hunting
groups select freelance Professional Hunters, familiar with Ozondjahe
Hunting Safaris game reserve are also
available. Each African hunt is adapted
to provide choice and variety of safari hunting
methods, including bowhunting safaris.
According to your quarry, preliminary sighting may be done by 4x4
vehicle with closer approach on foot, stalking and tracking, baiting
for Leopard hunts, waiting from one
of thirty strategically located permanent blinds or from a makeshift
hide as the plains game hunting or
dangerous game hunting necessitates.

HUNTING
SEASON |
| Our
trophy hunting season in Namibia opens
in February and runs through November, being 10 months long it incorporates
each of the four seasons. There are no particular months when plains
game hunting is necessarily better, but time constraints
or personal considerations such as weather, touring, wingshooting,
bowhunting or specific seasonal activities
might make a certain period of time more desirable to you. Keep
in mind while pondering your dates for hunting
in Namibia, that seasons in Namibia, since we are in the
Southern hemisphere are opposite of those in the Northern hemisphere.

BOW HUNTING SAFARI IN NAMIBIA |
Ozondjahe
Hunting Safaris is a bow
hunting outfitter and nationally registered bow
hunting ranch. We were one of the first bow
hunting ranch to offer bowhunting
in Namibia and were at the forefront of Namibia
bowhunting legalization, which finally gained approval in
1997. Bowhunters, familiar with the country, consider the overall
conditions for bowhunting in Namibia
particularly suited to their sport. Possessing some of the highest
populations for plains game hunting
and variety of African trophy hunting
species makes it a paradise for any hunter, but climate and terrain
are the features that make it so well-adapted to bow
hunting. The driest months for trophy
hunting Namibia are May through October and therefore are
the most conducive for a bowhunting safari.
Principally, plains game hunting is
done from strategically positioned bowhunting
blinds, ground hides and elevated stands near water holes
and salt licks. Our bowhunting blinds
are constructed specifically for bowhunting,
they are very comfortable, roomy and you can stand up in them to
bowhunt. Click here to view our bow
hunting blind pictures and here to view our Africa
bowhunting trophy photos. Within the bow
hunting ranch vast territory there are over thirty water
holes where everyday hundreds of head of plains game congregate,
you will certainly see a large number of plains game and have ample
opportunity for success on your plains game
hunting safari. The challenge of a walk and stalk bowhunt
in full camouflage may be undertaken by those wishing to test their
africa bowhunting skills in Namibia’s
competitive environment.
Our clients consistently leave with top quality trophies, in the
2003 trophy hunting season 4 of the
top 10 trophies in Namibia were taken
at Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris according
to Namibia Professional Hunter Association
(NAPHA). In the last decade more than
85% of our hunting trophies reach NAPHA
Gold Medal standards or higher, which is why so many of our clients
have returned to hunt Namibia with
us again and have sent their friends.
Bowhunting for trophies in Namibia
may only take place on a bowhunting ranch
which is registered for this purpose with the Ministry of Environment
and Tourism. Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris
meets all of the qualifications required to conduct bow
hunting in Namibia. To be a bowhunting
outfitter in Namibia, the hunting territory must be inspected
and approved to become a nationally registered bow
hunting ranch, and the outfitter must have one Professional
Hunter in possession of a valid Namibia bow
hunting license. Bowhunting permits for all species must
be obtained by a licensed bowhunting outfitter.
Please note that Namibia bowhunting safari
rules dictate that each bowhunter
may hunt only two animals of each species. Additionally, Namibia
does not allow dangerous game hunting
by bow, with the exception of Cheetah hunting.
Click here for the following species to be hunted by bow, Leopard
hunting, African Lion hunting,

hunting, Rhino hunting or Hippo

| BOW
HUNTING SAFARI EQUIPMENT |
We
recommend bringing two well-tuned hunting bows of draw weight not
less than 50lbs, or 70lbs if you will be hunting
African big game (see Namibia bowhunting
equipment requirements below). Long bowhunting,
recurve bowhunting and compound
bowhunting is allowed, but crossbows are not allowed. Arrows
can be made out of wood, fiberglass, carbon or aluminum and the
shaft must have a minimum length of 19.68 inches (500 mm). The arrows
must be fitted with broadheads of modern configuration with at least
two cutting blades and a minimum length and width of 1 inch (26
mm). Broadheads may not have any moving parts, be barbed or have
serrated edges. Special arrow points such as judo points, bird points
or blunt points may be used for bowhunting
birds only. A range finder can be a valuable tool for assessing
distance in our unfamiliar Namibia hunting
enviroment. A good supply of arrows, strings and other spares should
be brought along, as there is virtually no bowhunting equipment
available in Namibia. The most suitable colors for camouflage are
a combination of muted gray, brown and yellow. Consult chart below
for minimum kinetic energy and arrow weight requirements in Namibia.

| CHEETAH
HUNTING |
| If
you are looking for a Cheetah hunt
take into consideration that we have the highest density of Cheetah
population in the world right where Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris game reserve is located. Our Cheetah
hunting trophy pictures speak
for themselves, click here to view our Cheetah
hunting pictures or click here to view our African
hunting trophy photo gallery. |
| A
CHEETAH HUNT |
A
Cheetah hunt is challenging because
a Cheetah hunting territory is vast
so they are constantly on the move. Even more complicating is the
fact that a Cheetah only eats freshly killed meat so they don't
respond to baiting as is commonly done for Leopard
hunting. Suffice it to say that Cheetah
hunts are mostly done on an encounter basis and some tracking
can also be conducted. It does take a bit of chance to encounter
them, though we have key areas such as play trees, rock formation,
plains and water holes that are frequented by Cheetahs who pass
through Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris territory.
We have an excellent native tracker in particular at Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris who has been tracking and hunting
Cheetahs with us for over 20 years who is an expert at locating
them, he has even been featured on the Discovery Channel for his
expertise, that’s as good as it gets, when it comes to Cheetah
hunting. Needless to say, with the exceptional abilities
of our trackers, we have an excellent Cheetah
hunting success rate. In a typical year 10% or higher of
the total number of Cheetahs hunt ed
in Namibia are taken at Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris game reserve. Please note that the USA, as well as
some other countries, does not permit the importation of a Cheetah
hunting trophy.
The better months to hunt Cheetahs
at Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris are June
through November, although Cheetahs are present throughout the year.
Dangerous game hunting, meaning Cheetah hunting
and Leopard hunting, require a minimum
of 12 hunting days and are combined with a plains
game hunting safari. Should a Cheetah or Leopard be encountered
on an plains game only hunt, it may be taken ONLY upon approval
by the Professional Hunter and payment by the client of a special
tariff of US$ 1500.00 per animal in addition to the regular Trophy
Fee rate. Although Namibia does not allow dangerous
game hunting by bow such as Leopard
hunting, bowhunting cheetah
is permitted.
Considering the challenging nature of a Cheetah
hunt, we offer no guarantee. Be aware that any African
hunting outfitter who offers a Cheetah
hunting guarantee, should be looked upon with great skepticism. |
| LEOPARD
HUNTING |
| If
you are looking for a Leopard hunting
safari, Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris game
reserve has a good number of Leopards available for the trophy
hunter who has been seeking this elusive member of the Big
Five as well as other dangerous game
hunting. click here to view our Leopard
hunting pictures or click here to view our African
hunting trophy photo gallery. |
| A
LEOPARD HUNT |
We
do have a good amount of Leopards on the game reserve, but in an
effort to manage our wildlife resources, we limit the number of
Leopard hunt s we conduct, offering
only two or three Leopard hunting safaris
each year. We work on a demand basis, meaning if a client requests
a Leopard hunt we will start baiting
and setting up hides in key locations months before his arrival
in order to increase his chances of taking his Leopard. We do not
set out baits for Leopard hunting all
year long as specialized Leopard hunting
safari outfitters do. We do not offer
any guarantee as a specialized Leopard hunting
outfitter may, but our daily rates are much lower, we do not charge
for baiting and our minimum required hunting days are less than
these types of Leopard hunting operations.
Our clients also enjoy combining their Leopard
hunt with plains game hunting
which is not always possible with specialized Leopard
hunting safari outfitter.
The better months Leopard hunting at
Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris are June
through November, although Leopards are present throughout the year.
We have an excellent Leopard hunting
success rate. Please note that the USA, as well as some other countries,
require a CITES permit for the importation of a Leopard
hunting trophy, which ideally should be applied for before
the Leopard hunt takes place.
Both Leopard hunting and Cheetah
hunting requires a minimum of 12 hunting days and are in
combination with a plains game hunt.
Should a Leopard or Cheetah be encountered on a plains game only
hunt, it may be taken ONLY upon approval by the Professional Hunter
and payment by the client of a special tariff of US$ 1500.00 per
animal in addition to the regular Trophy Fee
rate. Namibia does not allow bowhunting
Leopard, however South Africa bowhunting
laws permit such dangerous game hunting. Although permits for South
Africa bowhunting Leopards are scarce,
should you be interested in bowhunting in
South Africa for a Leopard, please contact us we may be able
to help you. Although bowhunting Leopard
is not allowed, cheetah bowhunting
in namibia is permitted. |

BIRD HUNTING
NAMIBIA |
Interested
in a bit of bird hunting to compliment
your African plains game hunting safari?
There may be a chance during Namibia bird
hunting season, May through November, for some adrenaline
charged Africa wingshooting, which
we offer at no additional cost (except if you have purchased a package
hunt, we charge US$ 100/excursion which includes all birds shot).
Please see chart below for bird hunting
season. Wingshooting safaris that do
not include plains game hunting can
be organized for groups of two to four shooters at a daily rate
of $450 each, which includes all birds shot. We are home to more
than one of the world’s finest sporting
birds such as Namaqua Sandgrouse,
Doublebanded Sandgrouse, Burchell
Sandgrouse, Laughing Doves and
Cape Turtle Doves, in addition to Helmeted
Guineafowl, Redbilled Francolin,
Kurrichane Buttonquail and Harlequin
Quail. Even a skillful sportsman will be impressed with the
sheer speed, agility and formidable number of Namibia’s worthy
African game birds. click here to view
our bird hunting pictures or click
here to view our African hunting trophy photo
gallery.
“Huge numbers of Grouse, fast paced and challenging”
Alfred Kaus
An abundance of Sandgrouse
is found in our region, flying great distances to drink at favored
water holes during the morning hours. These agile birds are hunted
as they approach the water in large numbers and descend at high
speeds. Doves challenge Sandgrouse
in many ways, flying with extreme swiftness and remarkable acrobatic
skill. As challenging as anywhere else in the world, these fine
sporting birds are hunted at water
holes in the late afternoon and are sometimes so numerous, choosing
which one to shoot can be the hardest part. Typically found on open
grassland, Guineafowl, Francolin
and Quail are tricky escape artists
proving hard to flush and are usually hunted walked-up with our
bird dog. A twelve-gauge shotgun is advisable, for your convenience
should you not wish to travel with your own shotgun, one of ours
may be hired for US$ 30/day and ammunition supplied for US$ 12/box
(25 count). |

& AMMUNITION |
While
most shots are taken from within a 110 yards (100 meters), they
can range from fairly close in thicker bush to relatively long distances
up to 250 yards (230 meters) on open plains, so a good variable
scope is suggested, you may also consider bringing a monopod or
bipod. Any caliber .270 or higher may be used for most plains
game hunting
but we strongly recommend a .300 Magnum caliber rifle or higher.
For Cape Eland a .375 H&H Magnum is more suitable. About 60
rounds of ammunition should be sufficient for a twelve-day hunt.
We think it best that you bring some type of wearable rifle cartridge
carrier. We recommend that clients bring their own rifle, although
firearms and ammunition may be hired by prior arrangement for US$
30/day and ammunition supplied at a nominal fee. For optimal performance,
rifle sighting will be done prior to the commencement of your hunting
safari.

| CLIMATE
IN NAMIBIA |
Located
in the central high plains of Namibia at an elevation of 5200
feet (1600 meter), the temperature range can be rather extreme,
typically varying 35° F (20° C) between daily highs and
lows. During the early and late months of the hunting season,
the occasional rainstorm can disrupt the clear sunny skies; although
there may be heavy showers they are usually short in duration
and typically occur in the late afternoon or evening. In reality
our climate is pleasantly low in humidity, the dry heat being
much more tolerable and therefore more conducive to hunting than
is the case in most other hunting destinations in Africa. Another
benefit of our arid climate is the absence of mosquitoes carrying
malaria or yellow fever, no tsetse flies, overall we have a very
low insect population for Africa. To properly prepare for our
diverse climate, please refer to the Recommended
Clothing and Equipment section.

hunting season 4 of the top 10 trophies
in Namibia were taken at Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris according
to Namibia
Professional Hunter Association (NAPHA).
In the last decade more than 85% of our hunting
trophies reach NAPHA Gold Medal standards or higher, which is why so many of our clients
have returned to hunt
Namibia with us again and have sent their friends.
We
encourage you to contact a few of our clients as safari hunting
references, there is no better way to gain confidence
in Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris reputation. Our safari
hunting reference list will gladly be provided
to you upon request,
so that we may ensure the privacy of our clients.
At
Ozondjahe Hunting
Safaris it has been our honor and our privilege
to have as our clients several of the most prominent European
Royal Families, a former President from Europe, CEO's and top
executives from several of the world largest companies and have
hosted on numerous occasions His Excellency Sam Nujoma, The President
Of The Republic of Namibia.
